Remote live testing solution improves workplace safety
In the lead-up to the Queensland Mining Awards announcement next Wednesday, we’re profiling the great work of three of our teams who have been recognised as finalists. Today we start with a technical innovation that’s driving safer live testing at QCoal.
Recognising the risks associated with live testing heavy equipment, our team at QCoal Northern Hub (QCNH) set about researching a solution to remove workers from the potential safety risks in this environment.
The team trialled and tested various wireless and Bluetooth devices to allow our people to test pressure, engine function and electrical conductivity on heavy equipment from a safe distance.
Using a mobile app, the adoption of this new technology has improved safety processes at QCNH with up to 75 per cent of live tests now completed remotely.
The solution is already being applied to other forms of live testing, including steering ball joint and pin movement tests and operational testing.
Their innovative work has seen the team announced as finalists in the Innovation category at the Queensland Mining Awards.
Best of luck to the team as we await the winner announcement!
