Mount Holland Lithium Mine Grand Opening Signals New Era for the Battery Metals Industry

On Thursday 7 February, Thiess attended the commissioning of the Covalent Lithium Mount Holland mine and concentrator alongside SQM and Wesfarmers chief executives, the Premier of Western Australia, Roger Cook, and his deputy Rita Saffioti, as well as WA Mines and Petroleum Minister, David Michael.

After securing a four-year contract in 2022 to provide drill and blast services, mining of overburden and ore, and equipment maintenance, Thiess has proudly played a pivotal role in this project.

David Greig, Thiess Group Executive of the Australia West region highlights the significance of the Mount Holland project.
“The operationalisation of this mine marks a substantial contribution to positioning Australia as a leading lithium producer in the global battery metals industry. Covalent Lithium are pioneering the future of lithium, and we are pleased to contribute,” he said.

In addition to Thiess’ promise of performance, community development and environmental conservation remain core focuses as the contract work progresses, consulting expansively with surrounding towns and communities to empower meaningful change.
